Worship for Jan 24, 2021

Welcome and Call to Worship

Pastor Karla

Opening Prayer

We thank you, O God,
for calling us into your
church to be your people.
We have gathered,
God of grace and wisdom,
because we have
 heard your call.
You have reached out to
 us in Jesus Christ,
you have touched us with your Spirit;
and we have turned toward you,
seeking to love as we have been loved.

We call upon your holy name:
empower us to worship and serve you,
 walking gently on this earth,
through the grace of Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Sermon

     “Where’s the Urgency?”
     Rev. Karla Fredericksen

A Jonah Confession

God of unrelenting mercy,
Forgive us for the times
we have run the other way
rather than enter the territory of
those we do not like,
those who have hurt us,
those we consider our enemy.
Forgive us for the times we
have resented your forgiveness
  of those we consider unforgivable.
Forgive us for the times we have wallowed in anger and self-pity
rather than rejoice in the bounty of your love for all people.
Sometimes we, like Jonah, want you to punish our enemies
    and confirm our prejudices.
Forgive us for putting boundaries around your mercy
    and borders on your forgiveness.
Help us to see ourselves as children of the Most Merciful One,
sisters and brothers of all who you have created.
Help us to forgive those who sin against us as you forgive us.
Amen.

Prayers of the People

 Prayers of Gratitude
 Prayers of Concern

 The Lord’s Prayer

Give us this day
      our daily bread,
And forgive us
      our trespasses
      as we forgive those who
      trespass against us.
And lead us not
      into temptation,
      but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
      and the power
      and the glory forever. Amen.

Offering:

Take note of the ways to give:  Our time, our gifts and talents, our worship and praise, our service in church and community, and our monetary gifts.  During this pandemic, please remember the church still pays minimal staff and building expenses, so keep the church in mind for your giving.
For monetary offerings:

  • checks sent to CUMC, P.O. Box 417, Chehalis, WA  98532.
  • Cash, of course, would have to be brought to the church office (in an envelope, please) during office hours (Tues 10AM to 4PM; Wed-Thur, 10-1:00)
  • On the DONATE page of this website find a link to our giving site, using a debit or credit card, or your own PayPal account.
  • Bill-payer:  Some prefer to use their own bank’s bill-payer and set an automatic monthly amount. (We like this one!)
