Please feel free to scroll down the page to each section, watching and listening to the videos, pausing as you need to, and joining in the prayers and liturgy aloud or silently.

            Breath of Heaven
            performed by Amy Grant

This song was originally written by Chris Eaton, but Amy Grant wanted to record it and asked Chris if she could rewrite some of the lyrics from a woman’s perspective, namely Mary. Chris agreed. So this is Amy’s version. The images are from the wonderful movie “Nativity Story.”

Welcome and Call to Worship

  A Blessing Called Sanctuary
      by Jan Richardson in
“Circle of Grace: Book of Blessings for the Seasons”

“She entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.”
   (Luke 1:40)

You hardly knew
how hungry you were
to be gathered in,
to receive the welcome
 that invited you to enter
 entirely –
nothing of you
found foreign or strange,
nothing your life
that you were asked
to leave behind
or to carry in silence
or in shame.

Tentative steps
became settling in
leaning into the blessing
that enfolded you,
taking your place
in the circle
that stunned you with its unimagined grace.

You began to breathe again,
to move without fear,
to speak with abandon
the words you carried
in your bones,
that echoed in your being.

You learned to sing.
But the deal with this blessing
is that it will not leave you alone,
will not let you linger
in safety,
in stasis.

The time will come
when this blessing
will ask you to leave,
not that it is tired of you
but because it desires for you
to become the sanctuary
that you have found—
to speak your word
into the world,
to tell what you have heard
with your own ears
seen with your own eyes,
known in your own heart:

that you are beloved,
precious child of God,
beautiful to behold,
and you are welcome
and more than welcome

          Prayers of Gratitude and Thanks

      The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
          but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power
          and the glory forever. Amen.

Take note of the ways to give:  Our time, our gifts and talents, our worship and praise, our service in church and community, and our monetary gifts.  During this pandemic, please remember the church still pays minimal staff and building expenses, so keep the church in mind for your giving.
For monetary offerings:

  • checks sent to CUMC, P.O. Box 417, Chehalis, WA  98532.
  • Cash, of course, would have to be brought to the church office (in an envelope, please) during office hours (Tues 10AM to 4PM; Wed-Thur, 10-1:00)
  • On the DONATE page of this website find a link to our giving site, using a debit or credit card, or your own PayPal account.
  • Bill-payer:  Some prefer to use their own bank’s bill-payerand set an automatic monthly amount. (We like this one!)

The Greater Northwest Area of the United Methodists

Join Conference leaders in a Blue Christmas service available this Sunday at www.greaternw.org/bluechristmas.

This Advent and Christmas are like no other in recent memory. Many of us are having difficulty getting into the spirit of the season and fully embracing its joyous and celebrative tenor. All United Methodists in the Greater Northwest Area are invited to join us for this time of reflection. The service will remain available on this page for use after it’s original posting on December 20.

“Coffee Hour” – Tuesday 10:00 AM

Christmas Eve Outdoors
Candlelight Service, 7 PM

We plan to gather for a much shorter (20-30 min.) than usual Christmas Eve Service OUTDOORS.

IF THERE IS SNOW, the decision will be made to cancel if it is deemed to be too dangerous for you to drive! Just as would be in more “normal” times. Assuming weather permits a service…. So far, the forecasts are for “partly sunny” that day!

Accompanied by lots of 6 foot spaced candles, in the least, we will…

  • Light the Christ Candle in the Advent Wreath.
  • Hear the Christmas story read from scripture.
  • Hear/hum “Away in a Manger” and “Silent Night” and light our candles in the night.
  • Wear masks and stand at least 6 feet apart in the middle portion of our parking lot.
  • Go to spread (not a virus, but) the news that JESUS IS WITH US!!
