Our Missions and Outreach team plans for several short-term activities and projects throughout the year, and some continuing ones. These include “Halloween Souper Treats” (formerly Trunk or Treat, but we don’t do it outside anymore, and serve soup, too); an ingathering of food monthly and at special times for food banks and items for the gospel mission; “passing the hat” for food baskets for the holidays.
We participate in the “Backpack Program” which sends weekend food home for at-risk kids who are part of the hot lunch program and have little or no food when school is not in session. This is a joint venture with other churches and the Lewis County Food Bank. This year we are again providing all the granola bar-type items for this project – these include granola bars, fruit bars or snack packs, and “cracker sandwich” type packets. It takes about 120 of these each week, added to the items others bring, to supply a child with food for a weekend.
This year we supported the “Health and Hope” Free Medical Clinic on Tuesdays nights, by occasionally bringing dinner to the volunteer doctors and staff.
Also, we host Seattle to Portland Bikers annually for an overnight! We provide safe “indoor camping,” a shower, dinner, breakfast and snacks for the bikers. This helps us to raise funds for our outreach projects.
Gospel Mission – On the Fourth Saturday of each month, our church supplies the meal and the people to serve meals from 9 – 11:00 AM at the Gospel Mission. This is a place where those who are in need may come for a meal and referrals for other services. Several churches in the area take turns providing the meals. Our volunteers go to be a blessing, and find themselves blessed greatly in the process.
We also pack a “sack supper” on some of the Saturdays when others are providing the Brunch, and gift bags during the holidays.
