At Chehalis UMC we enjoy seeing children loved and loving, growing in faith and in relationship to each other and all generations!
CHILD CARE – Kids are welcome in worship! Infants and toddlers are provided a safe and fun space for childcare during worship, if parents wish to enjoy worship without distraction. Children 5-12 years may attend Kid Zone (See below). We hope that all will stay in worship at least through the children’s sermon. Childcare for up to approximately 7 years is also provided during the Adult Education time (9:30-10:30) on Sundays.
CHILDREN’S SERMON – We have a children’s sermon prepared for every Sunday, geared to help kid’s understand a lesson similar to the adult message and that will be expanded during the Kid Zone time. Kids may go to “Kid Zone,” (see below) or to childcare after the children’s sermon, if parents choose it.
We offer classes for children starting at 5 years old Sept-May, during the worship hour. Bible Stories and themes, and music are a part of the weekly curriculum. Plus puppets, drama, story-telling or the occasional cooking project form the core curriculum of this 45-minute class for kids. The curriculum usually follows the same themes as our worship. Our Sunday School Superintendent is Kathleen Fisher, and she is often the person in charge of the kid zone space as well.
Since this class is during our worship service, we ask that kids attend the first few minutes of worship for opening words, music and a children’s sermon. Then they are sent with a prayer and song for the “Kid Zone” time with adult leaders.
(Adults have their own programs/classes at 9:30 AM, with childcare available every Sunday.)
A week of VBS is a much awaited, and planned event every summer! It’s fun! Adults and youth flock to volunteer! We do this event jointly with First UMC of Centralia.
