WHAT’S HAPPENING the next few weeks in WORSHIP?

Sundays at Chehalis UMC:

  • Classes for adults are at 9:30 on Sunday morning (childcare provided).
  • Our worship starts at 11:00 am
  • Kid zone  (after the children’s sermon in worship)
  • Childcare is still provided during worship thru age 5.

The following are worship plans for the Sunday Worship Services at Chehalis United Methodist.

January 21 – “Gone Fishing”

  • Chancel Choir

The scriptures for the morning include the story of the reluctant prophet, Jonah, his experience of God turning him around using a “big fish” and the message at Ninevah that turned THEM around.  It’s a story of disobedience and prejudice.  And a story of God’s grace.

January 28 – “As one who has authority”

  • Chancel Choir
  • Voices in Bronze

Mark 1:1-28 – This week’s scripture says that Jesus taught “as one who has authority.”  From where did this authority come?  And by what authority do we preach and teach?

February 4 – “All Things to All People”

  • Communion Sunday (all are welcome)
  • Chancel Choir

I Cor. 9:16-23 – Paul wants to be all things to all people.  Is that possible?  Advisable?  Needed?

February 11 – “The Shining”

  • Chancel Choir
  • Monthly Luncheon – “Valentine Luncheon” provided by the United Methodist Women – all are welcome.  Free, but donations are welcomed.

Mark 9:2-9 – This event known as the “Transfiguration” sees Jesus and his closest disciples on the mountaintop and a marvelous vision invigorates them and spurs them forward into ministry.

February 14, 7:00 PM – ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

(Voices in Bronze practice will end early, Choir practice will begin late.)

Here is a service where we

  • take stalk of our need for change,
  • declare our intent to make the changes through the imposition of ashes,
  • and begin our Lenten disciplines with that resolve in mind.

The service is brief, austere, and compelling.  A good way to set the tone for Lent.

February 18 – The First Sunday of Lent

  • Chancel Choir
