Worship for Dec 13, ’20

Please feel free to scroll down the page to each section, watching and listening to the videos, pausing as you need to, and joining in the prayers and liturgy aloud or silently.

(We’ve been having some embedding problems on some of our videos, so if a video doesn’t show up and there is just a big blank space where it should be, there is a manual link somewhere below the heading to go directly to YouTube, if you need to. (Hint: if you use this link, you may need to use the BACK ARROW on the browser to come back to this page after you are done with the video. Apologies for inconvenience, AND if there are commercials you need to skip!)

Prelude

            Where are you, Christmas?
            – performed by Pentatonix

Christmas, Why Can’t I Find You?” is a song written by Mariah Carey, James Horner and Will Jennings for the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2000.
It was written for the character Cindy Lou Who.

This song speaks to our hearts today, as we are experiencing a different
kind of tragedy in our world than the mythical “Whos.”
How do we find Christmas this year without big
family gatherings and a time of fear and uncertainty?
When all you know seems to be falling apart, we can find Christmas,
and the Christ who is born to us.

Welcome and Call to Worship

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP 12-13-2020 – YouTube

“He will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love: he will exult over you with loud singing as on a day of festival.”  Zephaniah 3:17-18

Call it
the waters of salvation
or garlands of gladness
Call it
the grave-clothes
falling away,
or call it the loosing
of the chains.
Call it
what binds us together:
fierce but
fragile but
fierce
Call it
he will rejoice over you
with gladness;
call it
he will renew you
in his love;
call it
he will exult over you
with loud singing
as on a day
of festival
Call it
the thin, thin place
where the veil
gives way.
Or call it this:
the path we make
when we go deep
and deeper still
into the dark
and look behind to see
the way has been lit
by our rejoicing

Our Father who art in heaven,
      hallowed be thy name.
      Thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
      And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
      but deliver us from evil.
      For thine is the kingdom,
and the power and the glory forever.
      Amen.

Christmas Eve Outdoor Candlelight Service:

We plan to gather for a much shorter than usual Christmas Eve Service OUTDOORS. This could be a VERY short one depending on weather, right?

IF THERE IS SNOW, the decision will be made to cancel if it is deemed to be too dangerous for you to drive! Just as would be in more “normal” times. Assuming weather permits a service….

Accompanied by LUMINARIES, in the least, we will…

  • Hear the Christmas story read from scripture.
  • Hear/hum “Silent Night” and light our candles in the night.
  • Wear masks and stand at least 6 feet apart in the middle portion of our parking lot.
  • Go to spread (not a virus, but) the news that JESUS IS WITH US!!
Dianne and George took an Anniversary trip to the ocean last week.
Happy anniversary, you two!!
