Call to Worship

     The words for this Call to worship are printed below the video,
     so you may follow, if you choose.

Leader:    In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
People:   Behold! Our God is a Creator!

Leader:    In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
People:    Behold!  Our God is our Redeemer!

Leader:    The earth was without form and void,
and darkness was on the face of the deep.
People:    Behold!  Our God is Holy Spirit!

Leader:    Let us worship the Holy One in three, Three in One.

Opening Prayer

Holy, holy, holy God,
You love us by calling us into life.
You love us by giving us your spirit-breath.
You love us by journeying with us always.
And so we come together to give thanks for our life in your beautiful creation,
To sing out our happiness with joyous voices,
And to journey with each other in peace.  Amen.

Offertory

Take note of the ways to give:  Our time, our gifts and talents, our worship, our service in church and community, and our monetary gifts.  During this pandemic moment in time, please remember the church in your giving.  Take note of several venues to contribute without an offering plate being passed:

We accept:

  • checks sent to CUMC, P.O. Box 417, Chehalis, WA  98532.
  • Cash, of course, would have to be brought to the church office during office hours (T-W-Th, 10-1:00)
  • Or you can go to the DONATE page and find a link to our giving site, using a debit or credit card, or your own PayPal account.
  • Some prefer to use their own bank’s bill-payer and set an automatic monthly amount. (We like this one!)

Here’s some offertory music:

O, The Deep Deep Love of Jesus – Epic Version!   Arr. Khorolskiy

Words:  Samuel Trevor Francis, 1875; Tune:  EBENEZER, Thomas J. Williams, 1890
Presented by Simon Khorolskiy on YouTube
Violinist: Katie Gayduchik
  • O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free,
    rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me.
    Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love;
    leading onward, leading homeward to my glorious rest above.
  •  O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
    How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
    How He watcheth o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
    how for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne.
  • O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of ev’ry love the best;
     ’tis an ocean vast of blessing, ’tis a haven sweet of rest.
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis heav’n of heav’ns to me;
    and it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee.

Prayer of Dedication:

God who is in the spirit of creation itself, you have given us so much:
Christ to inspire us, your Spirit to enable us, your love to support us;
and so we bring these offerings that we and others may be inspired,
enabled, and supported. Amen.

Hymn:

Enviado Soy de Dios (Sent Out in Jesus’ Name)
The Faith We Sing #2184

The English portion of the words to this are found below the video.

Words: Anon., translated by Jorge Maldonado, alt. Translation © 1988
Music:  Traditional Cuban; arranged by Carmen Pena
arr. © 1996 Abingdon Press, admin. by the Copyright Co. CCLI #1397620

The verse in English:
Sent out in Jesus’ name, our hands are ready now
to make the earth the place in which the kingdom comes.
Sent out in Jesus’ name, our hands are ready now
to make the earth the place in which the kingdom comes.
The angels cannot change a world of hurt and pain
into a world of love, of justice and of peace.
The task is ours to do, to set it really free.
O help us to obey and carry out your will.

NEW!  Wednesdays – Bible Study: UNRAVELED

   Feeling a little “unraveled” by the happenings in the world?  Or unsettled and un-anchored without a spiritual support through Bible Study?  You are not alone!  “UNRAVELED” is a Bible Study that deals with these questions:  What happens when our world falls apart? How do we press onward when our tightly-knit plans unravel into loose threads? What do we become when our identity—or the path we’re on— comes undone? What if all of this is not the end we fear it will be? In our unraveling, sometimes life surprises us with unexpected joy, love, and hope—with a new beginning we couldn’t have imagined. Sometimes we need God to unravel us, for we long to be changed.

   This study explores 12 stories of unraveled shame, identity, fear, grief, dreams, and expectations.  Pastor Karla hopes that you will join her on ZOOM, Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM for about an hour of sharing in this study, began May 27, but all lessons can be received separately, without loss of continuity – So join as you can!  A study guide was emailed to all potential participants (can be printed for pick up for those who don’t have the capability of printing at home).  The links to the ZOOM study are:

computers & internet capable phones: https://greaternw.zoom.us/j/94897642352

Church Directory Updates

We are working on an updated church directory.  Please let us know if you have a  new address, a mobile number to add, a landline that you have discontinued,  an email address, etc., or a different way you would like to be contacted.

Contact the church office email address chehalisumc@rainierconnect.com (preferably) or phone 360-748-7334 between 10 AM – 1 PM, T-W-Th or at other times leave a message with the information.

“Coffee Hour” – Tuesdays 1:00 PM

To join the ZOOM (live) chat follow this Link!

This is an opportunity to see and hear other church people, share your joys and concerns, and pray together! This is sort of our way of replacing the coffee hour on Sundays! (Thus the name change!) To join the chatter follow this link at 1 pm each Tuesday. (Don’t be afraid…) For alternative ways to join click the next link and read! Everyone can come, EVEN BY REGULAR LANDLINE PHONE!  More info: “COFFEE HOUR” POST

Offerings and Contributions
(when no plate is being passed)

Checks mailed to CUMC at P.O. Box 417, Chehalis, Wa, 98532 are, as always, welcome!

You may now, also, make a contribution by using the DONATE page on our website, by PayPal or a credit card.  The site gives an opportunity to designate a portion of your check to a specific fund, by making a notation, if you like. And yes, there is a 2.2% fee for each transaction, but this is the easiest way, or the only way some of us have to give remotely (some people don’t use checks!) Don’t let the fee stop you from giving, if this is the best for you.

If you use your bank’s bill-payer for other organizations, why not make a monthly contribution to the church that way !?

Thank you, for remembering the work of the church goes on even when we can’t be together in person!

CLERGY SESSION vs. BISHOP WEBINAR –

There is no webinar this week, while the clergy are in clergy session on Wednesday. Clergy meet annually just before the Annual Conference of the Pacific Northwest. This year clergy will meet virtually at the time they would have met – in order to receive Board of Ordained Ministry reports, to elect candidates to clergy membership and ordination, and do other required business for clergy. This year’s annual conference is postponed indefinitely, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you missed any of the Webinars on “Ministry in the New Normal: Our Church Beyond the COVID-19 Crisis”
Or the first one on “Confronting the Sin of Racism” which began LAST WEEK…
Go HERE to watch any or all of them!

If you would like to read the document “Reimagining Life Together…”
Read it HERE.
