WHAT’S HAPPENING the next few weeks in WORSHIP?

Sundays at Chehalis UMC:

  • Classes for adults are at 9:30 on Sunday morning (childcare provided).
  • Our worship starts at 11:00 am – beginning June 16 (Fathers Day) this changes to 10:00 am for summer worship
  • Kid zone  (after the children’s sermon in worship)
  • Childcare is still provided during worship thru age 5.
  • Beginning July 1 – SUPPER CHURCH!  6 PM  (More info to come on this, stay tuned to this space.)

The following are worship plans for the Sunday Worship Services at Chehalis United Methodist.

May 6 – 6th Sunday of Easter

  • Chancel Choir
  • COMMUNION
  • Children are having a “tea party” during KID ZONE today.
  • Scriptures:  Acts 10:44-48; Psalm 98; I John 5:1-6; John 15:1-4, 9-17

The church of Jesus, his followers in life, in death, in resurrection are called to the commandment of love.

May 13 – 7th Sunday of Easter/Ascension Sunday, Mothers Day

  • Bring a picture of your living or deceased mother (or someone who was like a mother) for the altar!
  • Gifts for all the women at worship.
  • CHANCEL CHOIR
  • VOICES IN BRONZE (Bell) Choir
  • Scriptures:  Acts 1:1-17; Psalm 1 or 47; Ephesians 1:15-23; Luke 24:44-53

This day we celebrate one of the few secular holidays that is worthy of church recognition.  God is like a mother to us – birthing, protecting and caring for us throughout our lives (even when we don’t recognize it).  And has given us earthly and Godly women to do the same.

Today we also will celebrate the ascension of Jesus – when the resurrected Jesus was taken up into the clouds, promising to send the Holy Spirit.

May 20 – PENTECOST SUNDAY

  • Wear Red!
  • CHANCEL CHOIR
  • THE WIND AND FLAMES OF THE SPIRIT!
  • Scriptures:  Acts 2:1-21; Psalm 104:24-34, 35b; Romans 8;22-27; John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15

Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit is fulfilled with great excitement, wind and flame.  We’ll find some “fire” of our own in today’s service!

May 27 – First Sunday after Pentecost/Trinity Sunday

  • CHANCEL CHOIR
  • GUEST PREACHER:  Ron Grant, CLM, Pastor at Pe Ell United Methodist Church
  • Scriptures:  Isaiah 6:1-8; Psalm 29, Romans 8:12-17; John 3:1-17

This is the Sunday of the Memorial Weekend.  Pastor Karla takes the week prior to this (Tuesday through Tuesday) as vacation to attend her annual family reunion.  Ron Grant is a lay pastor with his roots in Chehalis UMC.  As a certified Lay Minister (CLM) he is assigned to serve at Pe Ell UMC.  He owns Grant Towing here in Chehalis as his primary business and gives of himself in his “spare time” to this ministry at Pe Ell.

We enjoy Ron’s preaching once or twice a year here at Chehalis, and Pastor Karla will preach for him when he needs a break, too.

June 3- 2nd Sunday after Pentecost

  • COMMUNION

  • Scriptures:  I Samuel 3:1-10; Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18; II Corinthians 4:5-12; Mark 2:23 – 3:6

June 10 – 3rd Sunday after Pentecost/ CHOIR SUNDAY

  • CHANCEL CHOIR’S LAST SUNDAY 
  • SECOND SUNDAY LUNCH follows worship today!  
  • Scriptures:  I Samuel  8:4-20; Psalm 138; II Corinthians 4:13 5:1; Mark 3:20-35

The Choir will have additional special music for us today as a finale to the year!  They recess for the summer after today.  NEVER FEAR!  We will have some special music many Sundays this summer, too.

Celebrating worship, choir and so much more today as there is lunch after worship.  (Any lunchtime donations will support the summer music ministry of the church).

“We have this treasure in clay jars…” ” Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the Sabbath'”… Jesus heals a man with a withered hand…  What will we learn from these passages?  (Pastor Karla is still wondering and working on this one!)

June 17 – 4th Sunday after Pentecost/ Fathers Day

  • Scriptures:  I Samuel 15:34 – 16-13; Psalm 20 or Psalm 72; II Corinthians 5:6-17; Mark 4:26-34

March 25 Palm/Passion Sunday

11:00 AM, “Palms to Passion” Worship

    • Dramatized readings of the passion
    • The raising of the cross
    • CHANCEL CHOIR
    • Via dela Rosa

Come prepared to sing palm praises and then hear the rest of the story of Jesus’ passion as it is dramatically presented with the readings.  This is an important piece of the setting for the resurrection day drama.  Please don’t miss it!

March 29 – Maundy Thursday

March 29, 6:00 PM, Last (Soup) Supper

  • Supper together
  • footwashing for those who choose to participate
  • Holy Communion

A traditional “Last Supper” with Jesus, as he washes our feet, foretells of his suffering, eats with us, communes with us.

March 30 – Good Friday

12 noon-3:00 PM, Good Friday Vigil

This is a time for meditation and prayer, as we wait with the dying Jesus.  We ask that you sign up for a time to come to the church where there will be meditation and writing materials, prayers, blessed bread and grape juice available to you to help you in your personal vigil.  These will be available in the fireside library and you may choose to pray there or in the sanctuary.

April 1 – Easter Sunday

11:00 AM – Glorious Worship
